In Los Blancos (Barahona), Nurys Ester Polanco—about 90 years old—lives with advanced spine degeneration and colon cancer. She no longer walks and cannot sit in a wheelchair for long; the comfort of her rocking chair helps her rest. Her son, Agustin Polanco Floriano (31), has lived with depression since age 14, yet day after day he shows steadfast love: he cooks, keeps the house clean and welcoming, and stays by his mother’s side around the clock.

When we visited, Nurys appeared frail, seated in her chair, with Agustin close beside her—an image of quiet devotion. Because Agustin is a full-time caregiver, income is scarce and basic needs add up quickly.

Through the St. Francis Hands Foundation, we accompany this family with essentials that bring dignity and relief. Your generosity helps us provide adult diapers, bed pads, clothing, pantry staples, and hygiene items—practical support that eases long days for both mother and son.

Immediate needs

  • Adult diapers and disposable bed pads

  • Comfortable clothing and blankets

  • Nonperishable food staples and hygiene items

With your help, Nurys can rest with dignity and Agustin can continue caring for her with strength and hope.
