Far to the north of the Dominican Republic, in Puerto Plata, lives a woman whose courage and faith inspire us deeply—Denny Mata Rubio de Ureña.
Denny is unable to walk. The discs in her spine are severely atrophied, leaving her confined to a chair. A wheelchair is beyond her means, and each day brings challenges many of us cannot imagine. And yet, when our volunteers made the long journey from Santo Domingo to visit her, they were met not with despair, but with one of the brightest smiles you could ever see.

In the photo, Denny sits on her chair, holding a package of adult diapers—the lifeline she depends on to preserve her dignity. Something so simple, yet so essential.
Her smile tells the story of gratitude, resilience, and the power of love in action. It reminds us why our mission matters. Every journey, every package carried, every donation given, brings hope to someone like Denny, who carries heavy burdens with grace and courage.
We thank our volunteers who traveled the long distance to reach her, and we thank every one of you who makes this ministry possible.
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2
How You Can Help
Stories like Denny’s remind us that there are countless others who depend on us for essentials most of us take for granted. Your support allows us to continue these journeys across the island, reaching families and individuals who need our care the most.
If you would like to help provide dignity and hope for people like Denny, please consider making a donation to the St. Francis Hands Foundation.
With your help, we can continue to bring not only material aid, but also the message: You are not forgotten. You are loved.
